David McAulay is an award winning composer, multi-instrumentalist and sound designer who has a unique sensitivity to emotional and engaging storytelling.

David is a BAFTA-nominated film and television composer and sound designer from Glasgow, Scotland. Renowned for his work as a record producer and multi-instrumentalist, his credits include collaborations with Mogwai, King Creosote, and Emma Pollock (The Delgados). His most recent project, Afterlands with ex-Phantom Band member Rick Redbeard, was recently nominated for Scottish Album of the Year. David's cross-disciplinary approach lends a distinctive and appealing aesthetic to his work, making it versatile across various productions. He holds a Master's degree in Sound for the Moving Image from Glasgow School of Art, where he graduated with distinction and was awarded the Chairman's Medal for his research.

As a composer and sound designer, David has contributed to several award-winning feature documentaries, dramas, and commercial projects. Notable works include the prime-time BBC documentary "Attenborough and the Mammoth Graveyard," the BAFTA-nominated "From Scotland With Love," and the upcoming Asif Kapadia produced feature documentary "Super Nature" directed by Ed Sayars.

David's compositional style is adaptable, encompassing electronic works that blend analogue synthesizers with modern technology, as well as more nuanced, organic material written around the piano, voice, and strings. His music is often characterized as sensitive, emotional, atmospheric, and uplifting, drawing inspiration from artists like Johann Johansson, Steve Reich, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Jon Hopkins.
